Session: MGAs – Catalysts for Innovation and Efficiency in Captive Markets

James is the founder of Bermuda-based insurance technology company, Cactus.

Founded in 2021 Cactus’s software, Marmalade, helps dozens of underwriters process hundreds of millions in premiums annually.

After studying mathematics at Cambridge, James transitioned from professional gambler to quantitative developer, initially at Barclays Investment Bank and then at Barclays Wealth.

In 2016, James was offered a role at Hamilton Re as a data scientist. Quickly realizing that both Bermuda and Insurance were lands of near limitless opportunity, James decided that the insurance technology scene here was where he wanted to spend the rest of his life.

James actively supports PyBermuda and Code441, initiatives promoting Python and programming education in Bermuda.
