Alan G. Gier is GM’s Global Director of Corporate Risk Management & Insurance. He is also President and Chairman of General International Limited, GM’s Captive Insurance Company.
In 2009, Mr. Gier assumed responsibility for all of GM’s then risk management activities in addition to his role as Director of Risk Financing & Insurance which he has held since 2000. Prior to 2000, Al held various GM management positions in strategic & business planning, international & joint venture operations, purchasing, logistics, finance and audit.
Mr. Gier is a graduate of Michigan State University (BBA) and Wayne State University (MBA) and holds an Associate of Risk Management (ARM) certification. He is a member of the National Risk and Insurance Management Society (RIMS) and Manufacturers Alliance (MAPI) – Risk Management Practice and former Board Member of the Detroit Chapter of RIMS. He is also President of the Bermuda Captive Owners Association, as well as an Advisory Board Member for various major insurance and reinsurance companies.
