Alan G. Gier is GM’s Global Director of Risk Management & Insurance. He is also President and Chairman of General International Limited, GM’s Captive Insurance Company.
In 2009, Mr. Gier assumed responsibility for all of GM’s then risk management activities in addition to his role as Director of Risk Financing & Insurance which he has held since 2000. Prior to 2000, Al held various GM management positions in strategic & business planning, international & joint venture operations, purchasing, logistics, audit and finance.
Mr. Gier is a graduate of Michigan State University (BBA) and Wayne State University (MBA) and holds an Associate of Risk Management (ARM) certification. He is a member of the National Risk and Insurance Management Society (RIMS) and Manufacturers Alliance (MAPI) – Risk Management Practice. He is also a Board Member of the Detroit Chapter of RIMS and the Bermuda Captive Owners Association, as well as an Advisory Board Member for a number of major insurance and reinsurance companies.
